Moreover, the economy of Jharkhand is largely based on forests and forest-products. The tribesmen residing the areas largely depend on tubers, stems, leaves, fruits, seeds, herbs, timber, etc, obtained from the forests. It is said that there is a symbiotic relationship between the forests of Lohardaga and the tribesmen housed in the territory. In fact, it is customary in Lohardaga that the tribesmen marry the mahua trees; whereas the women marry mango trees: after the actual marriage between a man and woman of the tribal community of Lohardaga, they are expected to marry the mango and mahua trees. Thus, it is evident that forests are, indeed, the pivot of the tribal society in Lohardaga.
