Koderma
The Mica Capital of India, Koderma was created on 10th April, 1994. Earlier, it used to be a part of Hazaribagh district of the Chotanagpur division. For its rich mica deposits, Koderma is also known as 'Abharkh Nagari'. Though the district is blessed with natural resources, it is essentially an under developed part of Jharkhand. The five blocks of Koderma are Koderma, Jainagar, Chandwara, Satgawan and Markacho. There are 717 villages and 80 panchayats in Koderma.
Koderma district, situated about 397 m above sea level in the Chotanagpur plateau, occupies about 1500 sq km of Jharkhand. Hills, mounds and hillocks being predominant, Koderma has an undulating topography. The highest peak of Koderma is Debour Ghat. It also serves as the border between Jharkhand and Bihar. The northern part of the district is covered with Reserve Forests. About 53841 hectares, that is, 41% of the district is covered with forests comprised of tress like Sakhuwa, Gamhar, Khair and Semal. The main rivers of Koderma in Jharkhand is Sakri and Barakar with tributaries like Chhotanari nadi, Gurio, Akto and Gukhana Nadi. These water bodies supply water to Telaiya Hydel project.
The mineral content of Koderma has brought the district nation-wide recognition. The place is loaded with minerals like mica, dolerite, quartz, granite, copper and feldspar. Precious stones like the Moon stone, Beryl and Garnet are also found in Koderma.
Tourism industry in Koderma has also been a major contributor to the economy of the state. The district has many sightseeing spots like Telaiya Dam, Dhwajadhari Hills, Urwan Tourist Complex, Makamaro Hills, Shaktipeeth Maa Chanchala devi, Saint Paramhans Baba Tomb and Satagawan Petro Falls.
