The district of Janjgir-Champa is located in the newly formed state of Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh is located in the south eastern part of Madhya Pradesh. Chhattisgarh is divided into sixteen districts. On 25th May, in 1998, the district of Janjgir-Champa came into existence. The district lies in the central part of the state of Chhattisgarh. The district headquarter of Janjgir-Champa is the city of Janjgir. The headquarter is located at a distance of 45 km from the railway station and 67 km from the roadway from the south eastern part of Bilaspur.

The devotees often come to visit the Naga mendicants who set up their tents in this region. Champa is associated with the tradition and history of the district. A number of ancient temples are also located in this part of Janjgir-Champa.
