Dantewada
The district of Dantewada stretches from 80 15'42" to 81 58'43" East Longitude and from 18 46'48" to 19 28'30" North Latitude. It is situated in the newly formed state of Chattisgarh in India. The district got its name from Goddess Danteshwari. It is bordered by the district of Bastar in the north, the state of Andhra Pradesh in the south, the state of Orissa in the east and the district of Bijapur in the west. The topography includes valleys, hills, gurgling streams and sparkling waterfalls.
Covering a total surface area of 9046.29 sq.kms, the district of Dantewada in Chattisgarh is home to a total population of 478314. A total of 77% of the population of Dantewada belong to the section of scheduled tribes.
Farming, animal husbandry, poultry farming, cattle rearing are the principle sources of income for the people of Dantewada. The district is also rich in mineral resource content. 14 reserves have been identified to have rich iron - ore deposition. This iron ore yields 68% of iron and therefore can be rightfully termed as of world class quality. Deposits like marble, uranium, graphite, granite, and lime stone have also been found in the district. These resources are earning much money to significantly shape the economic map of Dantewada. The National Highway 16 runs for about 150 kms across the district. The district of Dantewada is in its developing stage and still has some parts where electricity has not reached and this include 405 non - electrified villages.
