Begusarai was formed in the year 1972. Begusarai is situated in the middle of North Bihar and is surrounded on the north by Samastipur,on the south by Ganga and Lakhisarai district,on the east by Khagaria and Munger,on the west by Samastipur and Patna district.

Infrastructure Begusarai is accessible to all parts of India by roads and railways. The National Highways 28 and 31 runs through Begusarai and keeps it well connected with all places within and outside the state.

Demography Begusarai has a total population of 23,42,989 with male population of 12,26,057 and female population of 11,169,32(as per 2001 census)

Economy Almost 80% of the people in Begusarai depend on agriculture and grow cash crops like oilseeds, jute, tobacco, potato, red chillies, tomato and andi, some are engaged in rearing of cattle. Begusarai also has many important industrial units like Indian Oil Refinery, Thermal Power Station and Hindustan Fertilizer Limited.

Tourist Attraction The major tourist destination in Begusarai is the "Kaveri Jheel", which is the largest fresh water lake of Asia and is also known for the famous Bird Sanctuary which has birds of rare species.

Educational Institutions Begusarai has many government schools. It also has colleges for various streams of education like Ayurvedic Medicine,Law,Polytechnic,I.T.I,Homeopathic and a college for general stream. With so many industrial and educational units Begusarai has the potential to become one of the developed district of the state.
