Chikmagalu
District, internationally renowned for its coffee literally means 'The Younger Daughter's Town' and encompasses an area of 7,201 sq. km. The district spans across the latitudinal parallels of 12° 54' 42''and 13° 53' 53'' north and the longitudinal meridians of 75° 04' 46''and 76° 21' 50'' east. Shimoga, Davangere, Chitradurga, Tumkur, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka mark Chikmagulur's geographic boundaries.
The 2001 Census has attested a net population size of 11,39,104. Although not in the forefront of industrial enterprise, agriculture forms the economic backbone of Chikmagulur, one of the leaders in coffee production in the world.
